HOW TO PERFECT YOUR NEWBORN IN A BUCKET POSE

Newborn Posing – Free Learning with Style Pose Click

Everyone loves a baby in a bucket. Anne Geddes lead the charge with her flower pots over 20 years ago and while the styling has changed a little in recent times, photographers are still posing babies in buckets and parents are still requesting these setups … and most importantly, buying those images! There is certainly an art to photographing newborns in hard props, particularly when shooting from a birds’ eye view. There are lots of variables to consider … angles, lighting, how to pack your prop and of course, how to create an environment for that precious little bub that is comfortable and safe.

We spent the day with Connie Lawson from Connie’s Magic Moments on the Gold Coast who talked us through how to recreate the bucket pose for newborns from beginning to end. Watch how she packs her bucket, weights it for safety, adds textures and layers to create interest, wraps and then poses 9 day old baby Mason with the help of a safety spotter to come up with her final image.

This free tutorial from Connie will help you to perfect this pose, making sure that you capture all of baby’s features from above without losing the details of the prop and background – all straight out of camera! Thank you so much to Connie for having us in her Yatala, Gold Coast studio and to Mason’s family for allowing us to video their gorgeous little man.
